Today, we would like you (our readers) to yet another woman technologist who will be speaking at the upcoming African Women In Tech 2019 conference. The AWIT19 conference to be held in Lagos, Nigeria at the end of this month.

Here is Adejoke Haastrup. She will be speaking at the EdTech (Do’s & Don’t’s) panels session on Day 2 of AWIT19. Without any further blurb, here is a snipped of innov8tiv’s interview with Haastrup:

As a Software Engineer, how important is branding to you?

I started to see the importance of branding when I started Kidsthatcode. I learned your brand is very important and how you package and present it matter so as a software engineer, Branding is very important to me.

Has Social Media been strategic enough to you for relevance?

Yes, social media has been strategic enough to me for relevance. But I am also a believer of other kinds of engagement outside social media.

How long have you been exposed to the African tech field, and how has this influenced your knowledge of technological advancement in Africa?

I have been in the tech field for close to 4 years now. Over the years, I have seen Africa especially developers in Nigeria Advance and we have so many African developers all over the world contributing and building products to solve problems…This has inspired and influenced me to do in the tech field and to become world class

As an African woman in tech, what is the most significant challenge you have faced professionally?

One of the major challenge as an African woman in tech is people imposing impostor syndrome on you. Always asking are you sure you can do this? Oh, so you know this language. This is really annoying especially when people say you are the first female developer I am seeing …There are so many female developers around. African Women are winning.

In your experience, how has strategic networking influenced your career?

Strategic networking has influenced my career in a very positive way.

I have been able to meet developers who have not only helped but also contributed to my advancement as a developer.
