iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6s outsold Android smartphones in the 2016 Holiday Shopping Season

One undeniable fact about the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and iPhone 7, 7 Plus, is that they were a letdown in the design department. People were expecting Apple to release new devices with new design; it typically does hit the visual refresh button every other year. However, with the iPhone 6 and 7, Apple chose to maintain the same design.

However, rumors are doing round that the next iPhone, iPhone 8, will come with a complete design overhaul. As for the iPhone 6 and 7, Apple was mainly focusing on improving performance and features rather that the device’s design. iPhone 8 is said will come with both; outer design changes and improvement of performance and features.

Be that as it may! The tech blogs were not so merciful to the iPhone 6 or 7; they outrightly called out Apple for producing boring phones. It was worse off for iPhone 7 as it came second with a design more or less similar to the iPhone 6.

But guess what! Those boring Apple iPhone 7, 7 Plus, and iPhone 6s were the best-selling smartphones during the 3-months period ending in November 2016. That is according to a leading research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. These three devices combined accounted for 31.3% of all smartphones sold in the United States.

They were followed closely by Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge that came in at position four and five, and combined, they accounted for 28.9% of all smartphones sales in the U.S. In a nutshell, Apple’s market share in the U.S. rose by 6.4% on-year to 43.5% in the 3-months leading up to November. Google’s Android dropped by 5.1% to 55.3%.

iPhone’s biggest gains were in the United Kingdom where its sale grew by 9.1% year-over-year to 48.3%. Where Android also slipped by 1.8% to 49.6%. Much of the iOS versus Android across different markets is represented in the table below.
