Is It Too Late To Start Classic WoW Today?

by Innov8tiv.com

Classic WoW is a story-driven MMORPG where content is released in phases as the narrative progresses. It’s a simple formula. A content patch goes live, you rally your Azerothian soldier friends and complete the content. You gear up your character with epic armour and weapons and walk through Ironforge displaying your dominance! And then you wait for the next content patch and do it all again.

Classic WoW has been wildly successful. So successful that it’s looking like Blizzard is going to release Classic versions of their other older expansions.  Many gamers didn’t play the game at launch but with more free time are wondering whether they can jump into Classic WoW today? Is it too late? We have the answer.

Where is Classic WoW Right Now?

We are currently in Phase 4 out of 6 in Classic WoW. This means that we have the raids Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and Zul’Gurub. We also have all three battlegrounds, Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and Alterac Valley. All of the world bosses and the Dragons of Nightmare are in the game. This is a ton of content! The only major things left to come in phase 5 and 6 are the Ahn’Qiraj and Naxxramas raids.

What Kind of Player Are You?

Are you a casual player or more hardcore? How much time can you dedicate to the game? If you’re a casual player, then there’s no reason that you can’t jump into WoW Classic right now. There’s so much to do in the game that you’ll never struggle to find something to do. There’s a big alt culture in Classic WoW. This means that you won’t struggle to find a guild who can help you gear up your character at your own pace. Want to play 30 mins a day? Once a week? Whatever your version of casual is, there will be hundreds of ways you can engage with content and find the right people to play with.

What if you’re more hardcore? Can you jump in now and still get caught up? The simple answer is yes. For you to jump into a content-based MMORPG at a late stage you need a healthy player base. If you’re levelling to 60 or hit level 60 and want to do your first raid, then you need players to tackle these challenges with. Looking at the population data for Classic WoW, it’s clear that the game is still thriving. There are still queue times for some popular servers. Lots of players are levelling alts or levelling to 60 for the first time, so there are lots of opportunities to experience the game the same way other players did at launch.

Are You Passionate About PvP?

The PvP in Classic WoW is extremely accessible. If anything, you’re better starting the game in phase 4 than phase 2, when world PvP was launched but there were no battlegrounds. Phase 2 was a bloodbath of epic proportions. If you were on a PvP server, then you couldn’t level in contested zones without a group to protect you. In phase 4, all of the battlegrounds have been released. You are free to engage with PvP as much as you want, or not engage at all. There are no prerequisites for getting into the PvP scene. You can start as early as level 10 if you want to. The PvP ranking system is tied to how many active PvP players there are in the game, so everyone has a fair shot at rising through the ranks. There’s no such thing as being late to PvP in Classic WoW.

Behind The Curve on Gold and Items?

When you start the game you’ll have no Classic Gold in WoW. However, you will accumulate Classic Gold as you level up and focus on your professions. Sure, you might struggle to afford your epic mount as soon as you hit level 60, but the WoW economy is thriving and a little bit of effort goes a long way. It’s never too late to play this epic game!
