KaaRada A New App Developed To Boost Community Policing In Kenya

Following acts of terrorism that have been witnessed in Kenya, with the most recent and the worst terror attack being the killing of 148 students at the Garissa University. Techies from Nailab, dubbed Makeshift have launched a new app geared towards improving community policing.

The app works much like any other crowdsourcing platform where members of the public can post texts, pictures and videos of any suspicious activities taking place in their neighborhood. The term KaaRada has been coined from the ‘Sheng’ language meaning ‘stay alert’.

The app also avails the Kenya Police hotlines within the app and can also show users the nearest police station in their vicinity. After downloading the KaaRada app, users can login suing their cell phone number and see different categories of crime, such as missing persons, break in, pickpocket and car-jacking among others. To report any criminal activities, users just click on ‘Report it” and the crime gets reported to the law enforcement authorities.
