First OpenCellular workshop in Africa

The OpenCellular workshop is coming to Africa for the first time and Kenya to be the host country. The workshop will take place on June 19 – 20, 2017 at the iHub’s new premises.

OpenCellular is an open-source hardware and software project by Facebook aimed at bringing together smart brains to brainstorm, share, and network in a bid to create affordable wireless connection solutions in remote areas. The solutions spawn from this project must be benefits and reciprocate the advantages of open source technologies.

In attendance at the workshop will be open-source developer community, mobile service carriers, OEMs and communications regulators. They will put their minds together as stakeholders, and each see how they can leverage on their counterpart for a better and affordable wireless connection.

The venue for the event will be at the recently opened iHub event space in Nairobi. The workshop will also feature a hands-on demo and practical panel session where cutting-edge hardware will be showcased and discussed. There will also be a keynote address, and the attendees will also learn a thing or two about open access technologies.
