Kenya Set To Host Regional Spy Center

Nairobi, Kenya is set to be the place of convergence of regional spy chiefs from the Northern Corridor region to share information on security challenges facing the region.

The venue for the meeting will be at the Joint Intelligence Centre in Karen, Nairobi. The spy chiefs will be from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan. Expected to be top of their agenda will be terrorism, cyber security, and human trafficking among other security concerns facing the Northern corridor.

The participating countries agreed through their respective security ministers to adopt the center for their meeting. Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Joseph Nkaiserry went further to urge that the countries’ cooperation open a new and better frontier for border protection.

In a statement, Nkaisery was quoted saying: “This will include joint training on investigation gathering. We want to come out with solutions of how we can manage security within the Northern Corridor.”

His counterpart, the Uganda Minister for Internal Affairs General Nakajima Aronda, added that a joint approach to security challenges in the region will better address the vice.

Aronda said, “All development if based on good security and safety of people… we want to ensure this happens by making a good strategy of prevention.”

Of the countries present at the spy chiefs meeting, Kenya is said to benefit the most given the country’s frequent attacks by the Al-Shabaab militia. Kenya is also the host country for one of the largest refugee camps, Dadaab. The camp is suspected to be a breeding ground radicalization and terrorists. Although the Kenyan government has started various projects to counter the terrorists including de-radicalization programs.
