Innovative students from the local Kenyan universities have begun presenting their pitches to the Bill Clinton-backed Hult Prize. A global startup accelerator competition seeking to reward innovative social enterprises with products/ideas that could solve daily challenges in their immediate society.
The competition is currently undergoing across various universities in the country. It is also the last stage of the competition to take part across the universities, the next stage will be at a national level where the most outstanding innovators from the inter-university stage will be called to go head-to-head with one another.
The finalist will proceed to the international stage of the competition to represent Kenya at the finalist stage to be held sometime in September 2018 in New York.
In 2016, a Kenyan startup Iman Cooper BuuPass (now known as Magic Bus Ticketing app, and also the winners of AWITKenya 2017) won the Hult Prize competition and walked away with $1 million.
