Lions Den a reality TV series featuring Venture Capitalist looking for their next angel investing venture will begin airing on a local Kenya TV station, NTV from September 26. The first season will have 12 episodes of about 45-60 minutes each.
The Lion’s Den on NTV will be similar to ABC’s Shark Tank, where startup entrepreneurs with promising businesses ideas or already existing business come and pitch in an attempt to impress the investors Lions. Those that manage to impress the judges will walk away with not just funding to scale their operations, but will be under the stewardship of an experience and successful entrepreneur. Something that will go a long way towards easing those teething problems many startup businesses have to go through and learn the hard way.
The Lions Den is a program by the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), as an initiative to give struggling entrepreneurs a means to scale their business and operate professionally and efficiently. The program is looking for you. Yes, you; a Kenyan startup with a promising business venture but short of cash to grow to your potential.
The show will have five seasoned and successful entrepreneur and venture capitalists as judges. They will analyze businesses that will be pitched to them, and invest in the most promising ones.
“We are asking budding entrepreneurs who have a bankable project or proposal to step up and audition for the KCB Lions Den show. This show will provide entrepreneurs with a forum to present their ideas to a group of investors, and if they like the idea, they stand a chance to walk away with investment partners,” said Angela Mwirigi, the Marketing and Communication Director at KCB.
