Lamudi Kenya Talks About The Rise Of Green Buildings And Household Appliances

Leading property portal investigates increasing uptake of eco-friendly houses and sustainable appliances

With the recent signing of the agreement between Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), real estate developers are slowly embracing eco-friendly features in buildings, leading to an increased uptake of green buildings.

The agreement creates guidelines for developers to incorporate

eco-friendly technologies into their projects, thus enhancing environmentally friendly buildings. Green buildings feature natural lighting, and use renewable sources of energy such as solar energy, rainwater harvesting and recycling.

Lamudi Kenya Managing Director, Dan Karua, said: “This is a milestone achievement in promoting eco-friendly buildings. This will greatly help in reducing utility costs and effectively safeguarding the environment.

The agreement was fostered by UN-Habitat’s program, Promoting Energy Efficiency in Buildings in East Africa

which will focus on cutting greenhouse emissions through eco-friendly building designs and constructions. Technological advancements have also led to the development of eco-friendly construction materials which are recycled and non-toxic.

The materials include cedar made roofing tiles which are solar reflective, therefore reducing the amount of heat coming into the house, and bamboo and cork flooring tiles which are easily replaced and visually appealing.

Green living is the way to go. It is not only cost effective but aesthetically appealing when you incorporate eco-friendly building designs and construction materials. These household appliances too are beautifully designed.

” Karua said.

The house appliances market has seen a similar rise in energy efficient products that are aimed at reducing electricity costs. Popular appliances include energy saving bulbs, refrigerators and TV sets, all designed to ensure that your house runs at low cost.
