Live Chair – The Barbershop App Geared Towards Reducing Empty Chairs In A Barber Shop
As a customer you’ve probably encountered this; you go to your barber only to find there like 20 people ahead of in queue waiting for their hair to be trimmed. The situation gets more annoying when time is not on your side, and you are forced to leave the barbershop feeling very frustrated. This is not only time wasting, but also expensive if you drove to the place and burnt gas or other expenses while going to the barbershop.
From the barber’s point of view, there are times when you have many customers in queue but you can only serve one customer at a time. So some of the customers end up leaving and not having get their hair done. At the same time, probably a couple of blocks from that particular barbershop, there is one or more barbers just sitting in the barbershop waiting for customers to show up. This is a great inefficiency to both the barber and the customer as they are both losing money and time.
To address this inefficiency, is the Live Chair App. The app is set to maximize the efficiency of empty barbershop chairs and increase barbers’ daily revenue, while leaving the customers happy.
The Live Chair app is backed by a team of talented computer programmers to make the app a more interactive live application. The team is composed of Ifeanyi Kalu from Nigeria, Eddie Massey from South Carolina and Sakshyam Dahal from Nepal. The team has been pitching the app to barberships around the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors College at Claflin University. The barbershops around the campus have become interested in using the app. While the alumni of Claflin University are reaching out to this team of student and giving their support for the launch of the app.
The team submitted the Live Chair app to the UAF Hackathon program sponsored by Microsoft. The team got nominated into a group of 12 national finalist set to compete against each other for a $40,000 grand prize. The competition will be hosted at Microsoft’s headquarters starting November 12th to 14th.
