Meet The Ugandan Rap-orters; They Don’t Just Report The News, They Rap The News

Uganda, like many other African countries, has a lot of youthful population. The press freedom in the Uganda, can be said to be a far cry from ideal. The youth seem even less interested in catching the current affairs in as far as getting the news is concerned.

This level of apathy by the youth towards the news is obviously something of a concern. As the tomorrow’s leaders if not today, the youth need to stay informed thus involved in the matters shaping the Ugandan socioeconomic landscape. Any leader worth his or her salt is only as good as he or she is informed.

In a move to get more youth interested in watching the news. NTV Uganda has an innovative program dubbed Newzbeat, where the news anchors don’t just read out the news in the old-fashioned, boring way. Instead, these rap-orters rap out the news bulletin, and the program seems to be attracting the interest of the youth population.
