Microsoft and Nintendo partner up by enabling Minecraft cross-play across Xbox and Switch, PS4 opted out

Gamers on Nintendo Switch will be glad to know that Minecraft is set to get an update today, which will give it the Bedrock Engine to the Nintendo’s portable console. A feature that will enable cross-lay with Xbox One, PC, and smartphones.

However, gamers on Sony PlayStation 4 will be left out as Sony continues to block cross-play for not just Minecraft, but other titles like Fortnite and Rocket League. As Sony continues to anger gamers on the cross-play front, Nintendo and Microsoft are going full-throttle with it on marketing their gaming rigs. As you can see in the commercial below:

In the trailer, Microsoft and Nintendo are focusing on the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch crossplay. In the ad, they are even encouraging gamers to go at it against each other from an Xbox One and Nintendo Switch rigs.

There is no doubt that such a partnership is unusual for the console rivals, and it is somewhat understandable why Sony opted out; they want to confine gamers to their platforms for all game titles.

There is currently outrage among gamers with Sony for holding their accounts hostage with Fortnite cross-play. Gamers are not able to play the game using their Epic Games accounts if they have already logged in before using their same account on PS4. They are particularly enraged because of the fact there was completely no prior warning that they should not play the title on PS4.

If you play Fortnite on Switch, you will not access it through the same account on a PS4. When you attempt to play on PS4, you get the following error message.

This Fortnite account is associated with a platform which does not allow it to operate on Switch. Neither Fortnite website nor Epic Customer Service are able to change this. To play Fortnite on Switch, please create a new account.”
