Microsoft Solitaire becomes the latest game to be inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame.
Games that make it to this holy grail of video games must meet the following requirements:
The game must be widely known and remembered
Its popularity must have withstood the test of time
It must have influenced other video games in the general society
Now Microsoft Solitaire joins the exclusive league of Tetris, Halo: Combat Evolved, World of Warcraft, Pokemon, Doom, and The Legend of Zelda. The game has come with Microsoft’s Windows OS since 1990 and it is no mean feet making to this hall of fame. Though the World Video Game Hall of Fame was recently instituted – 2015 – and does not have a long list of games inducted yet.

Why was Solitaire included in Windows in the first place?
No, the real intention of adding Solitaire into Windows was not for your entertainment, rather your education. In the early years of the PC, many people did not understand the basic computing concepts such as operating the mouse (the drag-and-drop feature).
So Microsoft saw it fit to include Solitaire, which will fine-tune people’s drag-and-drop operation of the mouse. The game first came out with Windows 3.0 and was featured in all subsequent upgrades until Windows 8.1 when Microsoft dropped it.
Though it made a come back in Windows 10 after Microsoft acknowledged that Solitaire alongside Minesweeper and Hearts had devoted fanbase. Riding on the fact that Solitaire has been natively installed on the world’s popular desktop operating system. It is safe to say that it has been installed on at least a billion devices around the world.
