Microsoft stops Windows 10 October 2018 Update from Deleting Files on your PC

Windows 10 October 2018 Update

There has been an outcry from Windows 10 users who (either let) or had their PCs upgrade to the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. This latest version of Windows was deleting files on users’ computers on its own. The damn thing went rogue, just deleting things without the knowledge and/or consent of the users.

We can see how that can be a problem for everybody. One minute you leave a file or folder on your computer, the next minute it is gone. Users have taken to Microsoft’s support site to air their frustrations and disappointed on this weird behavior by the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

Microsoft has now addressed the matter on the support site, saying they have paused further updates. Until they resolve the bug that is causing the latest version of Windows 10 delete files on users’ PCs. They have also instructed users who have already downloaded the OS, not to install it. At least not now!

We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809)* for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.”

What happens to us already affected?

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 October 2018 Update and are currently suffering from the problem of missing files each time you boot up your computer. Microsoft advises that you contact their support center, and you should stop using the PC until you do contact them.

The probable solution Microsoft will be presenting you is data recovery. They will probably use a tool that will recover your deleted files, and that is why Microsoft is advising you to stop using your PC further if you updated to the latest Windows 10 OS and currently experiencing this problem. The more you continue using your PC, the more it overwrites those already deleted files. The more it does that, the harder it will become to recover those files.

If you have manually checked for updates and believe you have an issue with missing files after an update, please minimize your use of the affected device and contact us directly at +1-800-MICROSOFT, or find a local number in your area https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4051701/global-customer-service-phone-numbers. Alternatively, use a different device to contact us at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/. (The link will vary according to country of origin.)
