Microsoft gives Windows 7 users a one year deadline to switch to Windows 10

windows 7

Are you still using Windows 7? If you are reading this article from a PC, chances are 36.9% high it is running Windows 7. Well, you have until January 14, 2020, to upgrade to Windows 10, or you will be left behind and forgotten like Windows XP and the earlier versions.

That is according to a warning notification by Microsoft saying come the said date, it will stop further security updates and patches for Windows 7. Replacing Windows 7 by Windows 10 will be hard for Microsoft given how much people are sticking with Windows 7 compared to Windows XP or any of the earlier versions.

When Windows 7 first rolled onto the scene in 2012, it took over 62.27% of the desktop OS market within just one year. Great feet that Windows 10 has yet to achieve in its three years of existence.

The biggest Windows 10 Update mess not helping

Microsoft is shooting itself in the foot when Windows 10 Updates comes with a headache to the users. If you can remember, the Windows 10 October Update was a total mess and did very little (in fact the opposite) in encouraging Windows 7 users to upgrade.

Why Microsoft must end Windows 7 support

There are teams of software engineers and cybersecurity experts working for Microsoft around the clock trying to enrich the user experience for both Windows 10 and 7. Perhaps even older versions for special users like the military and research institutions among others. It takes a lot of hard work, time, and resources at Microsoft offices, while instead of all that time, effort, and money could be used at improving a single operating system.

Why you must now upgrade to Windows 10

Now that Microsoft is in the process of closing the tap from which security and features updates and patches flow from, users need to upgrade to where the tap will still be flowing. Otherwise, you will leave yourself vulnerable to boatloads of attacks and vulnerabilities.
