It is rather surprising just how many people have to put up with a slow and freezing smartphone; which defeats the purpose of having one. Your phone is supposed to unburden your problems; connect you faster and conveniently while you are on the go. It doesn’t make sense for it to be frustrating you.
Well, if your phone is freezing up often and things just don’t open/close as snappy as they used to when it was new. It could be you have too much stuff on the internal memory, and it is time to do some cleanup.
For starters don’t keep files longer than you need to; it is hard to remember to delete a document you downloaded to your phone three months down the line, but you could set a reminder to tell you to delete some of your un-needed files.
Most entry-level smartphones come with paltry storage ranging between 4 – 8 GB, yet not even 16GB would be considered enough for most people. Those high res photos, videos, music library, apps, and multiple mobile games, it would be easy to max out 16GB. Fortunately, most of these phones also come with the option of extending the internal storage using a microSD Card.
Before you go out buying a microSD Card
Before you go out to buy a microSD Card to extend your memory, you need to know that each phone supports different capacity of SD Cards. There are those that can’t handle big one of the 128GB caliber. Make sure you know what is the maximum capacity of SD Card your phone can handle before going out to buy one.
How to Move Apps from Internal Storage to microSD Card
Before we get into the ‘how to’ let us clear up something important first; not all apps can be moved from the internal storage to the microSD Card. Here is why; some OEMs and app developers restrict this movement.
For OEMs, it is mostly because they want to give their own apps advantage over their alternative (replacement). Take, for instance; your default email client cannot be moved or uninstalled so that even if you install another email client (Gmail app for example), it will still be there in your face reminding you to use it.
Now, on how to move apps to the SD Card. Go to Settings > Apps and on click on the individual app you would like moved, and go to the storage option. If it is on internal storage, change that to SD Card to free up some space on your device.
Advantages of moving apps to SD Card
The more apps and files you keep on your internal storage the slower your phone gets and the more frequent it will be hanging. So moving them to your SD Card saves you time and space on your phone.
Disadvantages of moving apps to SD Card
Well, when you move apps to your SD Card, you can use them without that particular card inserted into your phone. You lose that card; you lose all your apps, and must reinstall them afresh.
