Nigeria’s Gloo shutting down online grocery business and starting a new venture

nigeria gloo

Gloo is a Nigeria-based startup that has been providing online grocery services, where consumers can shop and pay for their groceries online and have them delivered to their doors. The startup was launched in June 2012 but has had to call it quits on January 14, 2019.

In a tweet sent out by the Founder and CEO, Olumide Olusanya, the startup announced it is shutting down the e-commerce business. They will also be unveiling a new venture they have been working on under wraps for 18 months now.

Olusanya, a medical doctor turned entrepreneur did not give many details about why they are shutting down Gloo, and the new business they are going to launch. But I would say he had anything but kind words about e-commerce in this part of the world. I don’t know if that meant Nigeria, West Africa, or the African continent as a whole. But you can check out the thread and reach your own conclusion.
