Nokia rises from the dead with the Nokia D1C; Android 7 Nougat, 3GB RAM Smartphone

In May this year, the phone maker that was supposed to be dead after selling out to Microsoft broke the news it is coming back to life. The resurrection of Nokia will be through a newly formed company in Finland HMD Global Oy (HMD). The first offering of the resurrected being the Nokia D1C; and no, it will not be running the Symbian OS. It will be running Android 7 Nougat.

The news of the said Nokia D1C first surfaced from GeekBench who were running tests on the phone’s specs. According to results by GeekBench, the DIC phone running Android Nougat was able to achieve the highest 682 in the single-core score and 3,299 in the multi-core score tests. The said phone will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm chip clocking at 1.4 GHz and backed up by a 3GB RAM. That was all the specifications made public so far.

The rest of the information like it will be water and dust proof, and the chipset will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 remains as just rumors. Nonetheless, it is a fact that many people are eager to have in their hands a smartphone by a company that was once revered before being bought by Microsoft.

On its part, Nokia made a statement reading, “Under a strategic agreement covering branding rights and intellectual property licensing, Nokia Technologies will grant HMD global Oy (HMD), a newly-founded company based in Finland, an exclusive global license to create Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets for the next ten years.”

With that statement, HMD will soon be releasing to the world the first line of Nokia-branded phones in a long time. Given Microsoft killed the Nokia brand name from its Lumia line of Windows phones. There is no doubt that Nokia lovers will sure be glad to have back the brand as an independent product from Microsoft with its Windows OS, which takes some little getting used to in order to fully appreciate.
