Officer Darren Wilson resigns as #BlackOutBlackFriday protests against Racial Profiling and Police Brutality continues

Following the decision by the United States’ grand jury not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for fatally shooting an unarmed, African American teenager in Ferguson; a city in St. Louis County, in Missouri, USA. Civilian-protests erupted across different cities in the United States expressing their discontent with the #FergusonDecision by the grand jury.

The victim in this latest case of police brutality was 18-year-old Michael Brown, who died four months ago. The protest against the decision by the grand jury reached its greatest height, last Friday during the USA’s shopping discount season dubbed Black Friday. The protests also ran on social media under the hashtag #BlackOutBlackFriday.

The #BlackOutBlackFriday protest called for Americans across different races and backgrounds to show their discontent with the grand jury decision by staying away from shopping during this traditional discount shopping season. According to Nielsen, the African American community has a combined purchasing power of $1 trillion. They are also leading, when it comes to expenditure on media, offline and online shopping, purchases of beauty products and watching television, compared to other ethnic groups. A boycott by this section of the consumer market is definitely going to be felt by American businesses.

On Saturday, Officer Darren Wilson’s lawyer announced that he decided to resign. Even though the jury had acquitted him of charges leveled against him following the shooting of the un-armed black teenager, Michael Brown.

The following are some of the comments running on Twitter on Michael Brown’s killing by Officer Darren Wilson:
