Ok Google doesn’t work for you? Here’s how to change Google Now command to anything you want

ok google google now

I like the idea of searching for stuff on the internet by voice commands, but if you have to start barking out Ok Google every time. You will sound like a broken record with time. I am thinking people should be allowed to personalize their digital assistant and give them names they wish.

Picture this, what if instead of saying ‘Ok Google’ you would say ‘Yo Sarah’ or something you like. Personally, I like the idea of having Sarah (my close-friend) at my beck and call. Even though it is not the real Sarah but an AI-bot inside my phone.

You can use whatever name you like; could be the name of that strict high school teacher, your spouse, your former boss. Anyone who you think calling their name to do whatever you want on your phone gives you satisfaction; however weird it may be.

How to change Ok Google to something else

If you are tired of using ‘Ok Google’ to have Google Now do things for you on your phone. You will need to download this app; Open Mic +. But before that, first thing first! Make sure your device is running Android 4.4 (Jellybean) or higher, and you are using the latest version of Google Now.

That said, install Open Mic + from the Play Store. You will get a popup warning message telling you Google Now word detection will be turned off. Proceed and toggle the switch off. Open the Google app and go to Settings > Voice > Ok Google Detection.

Now, open the Open Mic + app and on the Pencil icon tap on it (next to ‘Say Ok Google). You can now type a new command that you wish to replace ‘Ok Google.’ Whatever you type there, is what you will be calling out in place of ‘Ok Google,’ to get Google Now do as you wish.
