Opera Software might have realized, one-year later, it did a big mistake winding up the standalone VPN app it had released in August 2016. The app went for about a year before the company decided to shut it down, and leaving the countless people who had grown accustomed to using it.
As it wound up the Opera VPN, it left no option for the users but to seek an alternative VPN from the app store. Late last week, the company decided to correct its mistake and reintroduced the VPN, but this time as a built-in feature for its mobile browser for Android devices.
The feature is available in beta around the world and is an unlimited and no-log VPN feature on the beta Opera browser for Android. This development is somewhat disappointing as the previous Opera VPN was a standalone VPN that encrypted your phone’s entire traffic. That means all apps on your phone including the Opera mobile browser had their data encrypted through the VPN.
However, with the built-in VPN on the Opera mobile browser, it only means just traffic flowing through the browser will be encrypted. The rest of the data flowing to and from your phone will not be relayed through this VPN. Then again, half a loaf is always better than no loaf at all!
If you are looking to browse on your phone and still keep your activities masked from spying government agencies, hackers, attackers, and marketers. Then using the Opera mobile browser with built-in VPN is the thing you should go, and it will cost you zero. You also don’t need to create accounts and log in. The VPN is also available with no limitation on how much data you can relay through it.
Opera Desktop with VPN
Opera was the first mainstream browser to integrate an unlimited and free VPN to its desktop browser. It has now just followed that up with its mobile browser.
The Cookie Dialog Blocker
Opera was also the first mainstream browser to integrate a cookie dialog blocker that blocks those annoying pop-ups you get when visiting a website for the first time. These cookie dialogs keep asking you for consent for the site to access cookies on your device in order to serve you with a better web experience.
