Orange establishes Orange Digital Center to provide Startups in Africa wide-range of support services

The French telecommunication company has several acceleration and incubation programs under its Africa-support initiative portfolio. Some of them include the Orange Digital Ventures, Orange Fab, and FabLab. Some of these initiatives invest in startups in Africa, while others help in helping them scale in various ways.

Well, the French company has launched a new initiative to support startups in Tunisia dubbed the Orange Digital Center. At this center, the telecom will be providing Tunisian startups with a wide range of support services including coding, mentorship, acceleration, and investments.

I am very proud to launch the first Orange Digital Center in Tunis,” said Alioune Ndiaye, the CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa. “Dedicated to our countries’ digital development, these new spaces aim to consolidate Orange’s standing as a key player in the digital transformation of the countries where we operate.”

The Orange Digital Centers will also function as a platform where entrepreneurs, students, and just generally the youths can come to share experiences and ideas. The center will also be working with stakeholders including governments and institutions of learning with the end goal of making the youth more ready for the job market and entrepreneurship.

By the end of 2019, Orange plans to set up a similar center in Sierra Leone, Jordan, Cameroon, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. In 2020, it will focus on Morocco, Egypt and other North Africa and Middle Eastern countries.

The mission of the Orange Foundation in the countries where the Group operates is to use digital technology to provide everyone with a chance,”

said Christine Albanel, the Deputy Chair of the Orange Foundation.

This new initiative is part and parcel of the ambition to make digital inclusion the key focus of our social commitment. The ‘FabLab Solidaire’, which is part of the Foundation’s inclusion programs, is a gateway that will enable young people to develop new skills and firmly establish their career path.”
