Pluto Tablet – The First Tablet to be Assembled in Egypt
The Pluto tablet is the first tablet ever to be assembled in Egypt. It came about as a result of collaboration of Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) with Intel (the leading chipset manufacturer) to come up with a tablet that meets Egyptians requirements in terms of price, performance and intricate designing. The Pluto tablets was produced especially for consumers who don’t want to spend much on a tablet or are first time tablet users and don’t want to compromise on performance since they can’t afford the very costly tablets.
The Pluto tablets have been in circulation in Egypt since the end of last year. It is distributed by Nordix Egypt which is also responsible for its supply, marketing and sales. It is retailing at the price of 1,777.00 EGP. The features of the Pluto tablet are as listed below:
- Design: The Pluto tablet has a very stylish design with a perfect hand grip which makes it fit perfectly in the hands with a body dimension of 260×173.3×12.3 mm. It is also considerably light, weighing in at just 685g. It come pre-loaded with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS.
- Display: It has a 10.1 Inched 5 point capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. This makes it ideal for watching videos, playing games and typing on the screen all courtesy of the 10.1” sized display.
- Hardware: Under the hood, the Pluto tablet packs the Intel Atom Z2460 CPU, which is a Single Chip Design on Dedicated new 32nm System On-Chip (SOC) Process (CPU & GPU). Coupled by a DDRII 1GB LP RAM, it will enable you to multi-task easily without the tablet hanging or slowing down: you can play games, be on the net surfing, run other apps and still get the best performance speed. It also has an internal storage capacity of up to 16 GB, which can be expanded further by a microSD card of up to 32 GB.
- Camera: The tablet also features a 2 MP rear camera and a 0.3 MP front camera. This obviously leads to the conclusion that there is much improvement which needs to be done on the cameras. However you will still be able to capture lifetime events and make video calls on Skype and other video chat platforms.
- Connectivity and Technology: In terms of connectivity, it can support 3G data connectivity via USB OTG cables, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, 3.5 mm headphone connector, microUSB 2.0 port, HDMI USB port.
- Multimedia: It has YouTube player, supports HD Video Playback which you can connect to your TV using HDMI cables and has got a Music Player which arranges your music library in terms of playlists, artists and albums. It will enable you to play various mobile games. All of this will keep you entertained while you are on the go.
- Other Features: It also has G-Sensor or Accelerometer, light sensor which will automatically adjust the backlight according to the external lighting conditions.
This can be seen as a deliberate move by the African countries into global smartphones and tablets markets, or at least have locally manufactured or assembled devices sell side to side with imported brands. Intel has also shown dedication is supporting Egypt in its quest to have local devices being sold locally as well as in other countries. This can be seen by what Eng. This can be seen as a slow but persistent change in the world economic and industrialization that appreciates Africa as not only a major consumer but also a potential producers of technological devices as well.
