Apple unveiled the list above, after scanning through the over two million apps currently inhabiting its App Store. It singled out the apps mentioned above as the most downloaded iPhone app of this year.
Snapchat is the most-downloaded free iPhone app of this year, moving up from #5 in 2015, and taking the #1 spot from Trivia Crack. Facebook Messenger maintained its #2 spot, while Pokémon Go took up the #3 from Dubsmash, which held that spot in 2015.
This year, Snapchat has rolled in some nifty features. Such as the Spectacles with inbuilt cameras, that records videos and images in the first-person view. The images and videos recorded are will still disappear just like the rest of Snapchat’s offering. Snapchat also added some new filters and 3D stickers; all of which went a long way in re-engaging the users.
As for Facebook Messenger, there have been some improvements here and there; such as the chat bots, third party apps integration, and more recently the Instant games. Pokémon Go was an instant hit when it launched, rising to heights that cast a shadow even on Tinder and almost surpassing Twitter’s daily numbers of active users within just days of its launch.
