The Nigerian Air Force has unveiled an unmanned aerial vehicle and light surveillance aircraft that was built from the ground up in the country.

The aircraft is part of the Nigerian military arsenal against the Boko Haram insurgents who have been causing havoc in northeastern parts of the country. The Force says it is intensifying efforts in developing the capacity for Nigeria to develop the necessary military hardware locally.

Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff says the aircraft is only one of many initiatives the Force has begun in developing local content and building capacity within the Air Force.

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Kaduna today to pay a visit to the aircraft made in Nigeria. The President will also commission the plane as part of the Made-in-Nigeria project dubbed NAFSA Eagle by Nigeria Air Force.
