At the recent Snapdragon Technology Summit held this week in Maui, Hawaii. Qualcomm, alongside Samsung, AT&T, and Verizon presented to the world the next stage of evolution in wireless connectivity. They showcased some impressive feat that could be accomplished by the 5G Network.
Though by simply looking at it, this brick-looking phone, though the fastest device on the planet, does not quite pass off as one. If anything, it looks like any other generic handset. That is until you go online with it, and experience just how fast the gizmo really is.
Samsung, Verizon, and AT&T did more at the summit than just talk. The trio partnered up to set up a mini 5G network to demo the Qualcomm phone. Samsung too – as an OEM – had a prototype 5G device at hand as well to showcase to the attendees.
Though none of the attendees got to play with the device, as per the demo showed, the speeds reached were unprecedented in today’s wireless connectivity.
Qualcomm President, Cristiano Amon during keynote presentation said 5G “will lay the foundation for smartphones, later cars and virtually every electronic device that will be connected. That first step (smartphones) is getting to us in the first half of 2019.”
The advantages of 5G Network
5G is touted as the next generation of cellular technology that will significantly boost wireless network, not just in speed but also coverage. Telecommunications experts say it runs data at speeds between 10 and 100 times faster than what you can achieve with the very best of 4G Networks.
It even runs faster than what you get with physical fiber-optic cables. Users will be talking of speeds of milliseconds when they want to download and upload files.
IoT and Self-Driving Vehicles
The efficiency of the Internet of Things (IoT) and self-driving cars are hugely depended on the speed at which data is being transferred from one device to the next, or phone sensors to onboard computers.
With 5G Network, the efficiency of IoT and self-driving cars will be improved hundreds of folks as devices will be able to communicate with one another much faster. It could also make the difference between avoiding an accident through quick reactions or getting into an accident because the car simply could not react to an emergency quickly enough. 5G promises to improve all these aspects by simply enabling data relay to faster than it was previously possible.
