Quits A Promising Job At Microsoft To Return Home To Africa To Set Up A University
Talk about flowing against the current! While many Africans queue at the embassies of foreign countries in their respective countries hoping to get a visa to ‘greener pastures’. One Ghanaian is swimming against this current by leaving his successful life in America and quitting a successful yet promising job at Microsoft to return to Africa to make a difference.
Patrick Awuah had lived in America for nearly two decades, before packing his bags in 2001 and taking a one way flight to his home country, Ghana. Leaving behind his position as a Program Manager at Microsoft to start a learning program geared towards educating young Africans.
Awuah thought, “If the current leadership core was educated a certain way, if they were problem solvers, if they had deep compassion for society, we would be in a different place.”
He founded Asheshi University, which has now grown to become home for innovative curriculum, high-tech learning facilities and mentoring leadership. In his previous TED Global talk, back in 2007. He shared with the audience about his call to educate the African youths and why he believed education is key to molding these future leaders.
