Review: Asus VivoBook Flip TP200SA – The Device of Choice while on the Move

Laptops and desktop offer great computing ability. I mean they generally got bigger screen and keyboards that make working on them so much less of hustle. However, for the on-the-go user, they’re not the ideal computing device of choice. Yeah! Carrying around a 15-inch plus laptop is no fun, especially when it is heavy.

Since Windows rule the desktop/laptops world, you will probably not find an Android tablet as the next best alternative. Especially, if it is for work, the Windows platform and Android platform are two worlds apart. So you’ll probably be looking for a Windows tablet, or even better a hybrid 2-in-1 device.

You got Microsoft own devices like the Surface line of 2-in-1 devices. Alternatively, you can look for the VivoBook Book Series family that comes running Windows 10 out of the box. Today we’re going to explore the feature on Asus’s latest entrant into the VivoBook line the VivoBook Flip TP200.

Asus VivoBook Flip TP200 Review

First thing fast, it is light and compact! 1.2kg light, to be exact. It is about 18.45mm thin with a footprint smaller than an A4 sheet of paper. It has an 11.6-inch display, big enough for working on, yet small enough to be the choice device while you are on the move.

Now, won’t that be light and compact enough to tuck into your backpack, lady purse, or man purse and still get a room for other stuff like work documents, clothes, etc. Moreover, your luggage will not be as damn heavy as you’re moving around.

Well, we’re all fashion-conscious beings; no one wants to be caught using an eye-soar device. Especially those of you who visit coffee shops and public places deliberately so you can pull out your flashy laptop and get those stares. Well the VivoBook Flip TP200 is stylish enough to satisfy your need to flaunt. It has a gorgeous metallic finish that comes in Dark Blue and Crystal Silver colors.

The metallic body just doesn’t look good, it is also scratch-resistant, sturdy and durable. So you will have little worries when tossing it inside your bag alongside your nail file, screwdrivers… inside the bag. It beauty apparently is unblemished with time and reasonable forces.

Work Hard

Now let us look at what really matters, how does it perform? The Asus VivoBook Flip TP200SA has a 360-degree, multi-gear metal hinge, allowing you to flip the screen all the way 360O. When you’re doing serious stuff requiring the use of keyboard and touchpad, you can put it in laptop mode.

When explaining things to your colleagues, you can flip it into tent mode. When you’re squeezed for space you can flip the screen all the way round to tablet mode. With its 1.2kg weight, this is one tablet with full attached keyboard you’re going to love using.

It also has a superb keyboard with full-size keys that gives you just the right amount of key travel (1.6mm travel distance) for a comfortable typing experience. That is something marathon typist should be pleased to use; the last thing you need is an awkward keyboard that quickly tires your hand just 2-hours into the typing.

It also has a large touchpad for effortless navigation of the arrow across the screen. Asus says it is made extra-sensitive to give you an instant response, while at the same time avoid those nuisance you get when you accidentally touch the touchpad with your palm. The touchpad uses a smart algorithm that differentiates your palm’s touch and your fingers’ touch; Asus says they got a perfect balance between sensitivity and usability.

Play Hard

Now we all know laptops are not just for work. Hell, after work, you can still catch a movie while on the plane, train, or bus. The Asus VivoBook Flip TP200SA is just as good at play as it is at work. You won’t have much to complain about with its 11.6-inch display when watching movies. It also has Wide Viewing Angles to make sure the images don’t look washed out or don’t have a good contrast when viewing from off-center.

Whether work or play, the TP200SA gives you a full 8 hours battery life, which should be enough to take you through a typical day.

When it comes to connecting to peripheral devices, the Asus VivoBook Flip TP200SA is compatible with any device you might want to connect to your laptop. First, it has the USB Type-C port, so you will never have to bother figuring out which way is up or down on the USB when connecting.

It also has the USB 3.1 Gen 1 with data transfer speeds of up to 5Gbit/s (you can transfer a 2GB movie in just 2 seconds), so you never waste time on transferring data from your device to other USB storage mediums. It also has the standard USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports and a micro HDMI port to connect to the external display.

Stats for Nerds:

The Asus VivoBook Flip TP200SA is powered by the most recent Quad-Core Intel® Pentium® N3700 Processor. That enough power for the typical needs of work and play. Combined with an integrated Intel HD graphics that is twice as fast as the successor generations; to give you a smooth hardware-acceleration for a stutter-free media playback, high-speed video processing, and fast image editing while at the same time not drain the battery fast (it’s energy efficient).

Sensitive Touch & Accurate Controls

Asus says the VivoBook Flip TP200 is made to respond instantly to your every touch. The touch sensors on the display use a unique algorithm that will detect a touch as small as just 5mm in diameter. This is an exclusive algorithm that detects almost half of the industry-standard diameter of 7mm. Asus puts it as, “so even the smallest, lightest touch is detected, every time.”

It gives you ten finger multi-touch, for a more natural and intuitive experience when navigating, browsing or even gaming. All these touch sensitivities are available to you on both the Laptop, Tent, and Tablet mode.

Gesture Smarter with Asus-powered Smart Gestures

With its large touchpad, the Asus VivoBook Flip TP200SA makes better use of Windows gestures, making things for you a lot easier and smoother. The Asus Smart Gestures supports up to four-finger gesture on Windows 10 OS; for switching between apps, summoning Cortana and opening the Action Center.

Now, this is a 2-in-1 device you should have, especially if you are the type of user needing full desktop apps for work while you are on the move. It also doubles up as a great entertainment hub.
