In fact, a happy and healthy workforce has been shown to improve business performance regardless of an organization’s size.

Employers can benefit from improved staff morale and job satisfaction, increased productivity, better performance, and fewer sick days by promoting health and wellbeing at work. Not taking this agenda seriously leads to increased absenteeism and lower business productivity. Consider how you can change your workplace to make health and wellness a priority.

Small business owners can promote their own and their employees’ well-being in a variety of ways. Ingenuity Network at the University of Nottingham, and advice from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), here are some top tips for managing employee wellbeing.

Self-Reliance Does Not Imply Isolation.

Find a mentor you can talk to about business issues. Discuss work regularly in one-on-one or lunchtime meetings. Stress can make us sick and reduce our productivity. Develop your resilience. Encourage staff to talk about mental health issues early on, before they become a crisis. Invest in your professional network.

Well-Designed Job Roles Protect Health

Line managers make a huge difference in staff morale. Examine new approaches to line management, mental health support, and workplace conflict. Encouraging more flexibility in the workplace helps recruit and retain talent while promoting a healthy work-life balance. Workplace planning and organization can reduce stress. Volunteering in the community improves the quality of life and builds transferable skills in teamwork, time management, and communication.

Environment Affects Mood

Consider adding ventilation, air conditioning, or even green plants to your office to improve air quality. Encourage outdoor meetings, rotating office desks near windows, or shared break spaces with windows. Long-term sitting is harmful to our health. Consider encouraging walking meetings, moving photocopiers and drinks facilities away from workstations, or using apps and digital innovations to encourage movement.

Health Lets Them Work When They Want

A healthy diet, regular exercise, and enough sleep are essential for concentration. Provide health screenings for employees and encourage them to exercise at work. Encourage active commuting (walking, cycling), group fitness classes, running or sports clubs. Use technology to improve employee health and fitness, such as pedometers, online learning, apps, and email. Look after our bones, joints, and muscles, and prevent and manage back pain. Be an inclusive workplace – there are grants available to help employees with disabilities or long-term health issues buy new or adapt existing equipment. Consider a gradual return to work processes for employees with long-term health issues. If they have had an issue in their previous work or even your workplace make sure the information for accessing advice for work related foot injury settlements

and more.

Appreciate Excellent Work

The majority of businesses are focused on poor results. They are quick to chastise employees who don’t deliver, yet they overlook positive attempts. Non-performing staff, on the other hand, have a better chance of pulling up their socks if achievements are celebrated.

When you’re starting a firm, it’s important to recognize good work as often as possible. Employee performance should ideally be examined every week, and overall performance should be evaluated every six months. These are the finest times to congratulate yourself on minor achievements.
