Samsung Electronics South Africa has made an announcement that it is setting up a TV manufacturing plant in South Africa before the end of this year. The planned manufacturing plant will be located at the Dube Trade Port in Durban.

The plant is estimated to cost $20 million for the duration leading up to 2018. The move by Samsung is a clear indication that the company is committed to satisfying the consumer needs in South Africa.

This project is the result of close collaboration between Samsung and the South African authorities – at National and Provincial level,” said Matthew Thackrach, Deputy MD of Samsung Electronics South Africa. “Samsung remains the leading consumer electronics brands in South Africa and we are determined to add value to the South African community in which we operate. The establishment of new plant is another step in our goal to create new business opportunities, products and technology.”

Samsung conducted some feasibility studies of the project in collaboration with South African local authorities and has promised to hasten the construction of the plant. The residents of the KwaZulu-Natal province are set to benefit socio-economically from this project.

Samsung said the launching of its manufacturing plant in South Africa, coupled by its nationwide expansion of its retail presence in the country, proves its commitment to the growth of the South African economy and infrastructure.
