Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Review

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Review

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was officially announced by the South Korea electronics giant on August 13, 2015. The phone is well on its way into the ‘super-sized’ smartphones category with its 5.7-inch display with double curved edges on the sides. The best term to describe this phone is a ‘phablet’.

Out of the box, it comes with Android 5.1 with the Samsung Touch Wiz UI on top. Under the hood, the phone packs some very impressive specs as we are going to analyze below:

Design

It has a body dimension of 154.4×75.8×6.9 mm (HxWxT) and weighs in at 153g. The Galaxy Edge + has a metallic casing.

Display

As we said earlier, this is a Phablet phone, having a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a pixel density of 518 ppi. The display is also a multi-touch display, with the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 glass making it scratch-resistant and the sleek sensors such as the proximity sensor and light sensor.

Camera

For the selfie lovers, the Galaxy Edge + is not that much disappointing with its 5MP front camera. But the 16MP rear camera will be guaranteed satisfaction. The rear camera also has LED flash with other impressive features like the Optical Imag stabilization, Digital Image Stabilization, Touch to focus,  Exposure compensation, High Dynamic Range mode, Geo tagging, Back-illuminated sensors, Face detection, Smile detection, and Digital Zoom among others.

Hardware

Looking at the processing power of the Galaxy Edge +, the phone comes with an 8-core, 2100 MHz, ARM Cortex-A57 and ARM Cortex-A53, 64-bit processor. An Exynos 7 Octa 7420 System chip, and an ARM Mali-t760 MP8 Graphics processor.

All that processing power has been supported by a 4GB RAM and a 64GB internal storage capacity. However, the Galaxy Edge + does not come with memory card slot for expandable memory. This flaw will likely not go well with users looking for mobile devices with big storage space.

Connectivity

As far as stay connected goes, the Galaxy Edge + will give you Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a, b, g, n 5GHz, ac. You can also create a hotspot using the phone. You can also connect the phone using the USB 2.0 (microsUSB) for USB charging and mass storage. It also comes with NFC, OTA sync, ANT+, Computer Sync and Tethering.

Battery

It is said the phone’s 3000mAh battery can give you an average 13hours in talk time, can go 14 days in stand-by mode, can give you 61 hours of music playback. The phone also supports wireless charging and comes with built-in Qi Powermat.

Miscelleneous Features

The phone supports nano-SIM card, gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, fingerprint scanner, LTE, GPS, A-GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Voice navigation, Turn-by-turn navigation, Voice dialing, Voice recording and Voice commands among other features.

Conclusion

The phone has an impressive 5.7-inch display with 1440 x 2560 resolution. It will be fun for playing games, jotting down notes and accomplishing your tasks on the devices. It also has a fast (8-core) processor, with enough (4GB) RAM.

However, the lack of microSD slot is a major drawback especially for power users who like to store a lot of data on their phones. Also the fact that the battery is not replaceable is a major let down.
