Say Goodbye to Passwords: Windows 10 Will Have Biometric Logins, Passport Authentication System

Microsoft has announced that its upcoming Windows 10 operating system will use face detection, Iris and fingerprint scanning as valid login methods. This announcement has come a day after Yahoo announced a similar feature which will allow its users to login its email service using mobile devices and coupled two-factor authentication system.

Windows Hello—- Microsoft’s New Login System

In a blog post, Microsoft said that it’s been working on biometric system of verification for its new operating system. The new biometric system of Microsoft will be called ‘Windows Hello’. You will be able to just move in front of your computer screen and that’s it. The smart backend algorithm could not be fooled with lookalikes and similar faces rather Microsoft will definitely use state of the art, secure systems for authentication.

Passwords are old now in the contemporary tech world. They have shown vulnerability in case of attacks and hacking attempts. Companies cannot afford weak login systems. The best and secure way to authenticate a user is to identify him by his biological presence. That’s where biometric security comes in.

Microsoft said that a number of devices will support Windows Hello. Those laptops and devices which already have fingerprint feature will be able to use Windows Hello after the OS update. For Iris detection, Windows Hello will use a combination of software and hardware techniques.

Passport Instead of Password

Another important announcement: Windows will introduce a new concept called ‘Passport’ instead of passwords in Windows 10. A Passport will be a secure PIN or Windows Hello authentication instance which will give a user the permission to use web services, software and other tool, which require passwords. Microsoft said that a ‘Passport’ will never be saved anywhere on the server thus cutting the vulnerability of password hacks.

The Passport concept is clearly going to change the password era of the computing world. This innovation can create new horizons in the upcoming tech.
