YouTube has grown from being a simple video hosting and sharing site to somewhere people can make careers. It provides countless hours of entertainment in every genre and for every age group. The whole website has become a community of its own over the years.

We’ve seen people go from making videos in their bedroom to becoming big names in the entertainment industry, thanks to YouTube. Even celebrities like Justin Bieber were found on YouTube.

But, the issue is that not everybody knows how to take full advantage of all the features YouTube offers its creators. There are a plethora of things that the YouTube video editor allows you to do in your videos that improve the interactivity your viewers have with your content.

What Are Youtube End Screens?

An end screen or an end card is a YouTube feature that allows for a 5-20 second interactive screen to appear at the end of a video. On this screen, a creator can link their previous videos, playlists, a link to their website or merchandise shop. And for doing this, you can choose the best video maker available in the market.

Why Is This Important?

So, you might be wondering what is the importance of this screen. The simple answer is that it helps improve traffic and adds a new level of interaction between your viewers and your content. This is done by eliminating the thought of what to do next after a video ends.

Before, once a video ended, the viewer had an option to either manually find another video of yours,  or click on something else from the suggested video sidebar. They could also head back to YouTube’s homepage. Now, with the introduction of this feature, the viewer is given a choice to watch another one of your videos, subscribe, or even check out your channel.

How To Add An End Screen

The following are steps to add an end screen to any of your videos:

  1. Sign in to your YouTube account.
  2. Click on your account icon on the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Click on ‘Creator Studio’.
  4. On the left-hand side of the ‘Creator Studio’ screen, you will see a tab called ‘Video Manager’.
  5. Click on ‘Video Manager’ which will reveal a library of all the videos on your channel.
  6. Scroll through the library and choose which video you would like to add an end screen on.
  7. Click on ‘Edit’ beside the video you would like to add an end screen on.
  8. Your selected video will open in a new screen with a few tool tabs on the top.
  9. One of those tabs will say ‘End Screen & Annotations’.
  10. The ‘End Screen & Annotations’ screen will open up.
  11. Click on ‘Add Elements’ on the right-hand side of the screen beside your video.

What Can You Add To The End Screen?

You get four choices of what you wish to add to your end screen, and they are

Video or Playlist: Here, you can choose to promote a video or playlist of your choice.

Subscribe: This creates a clickable subscribe button on the end screen of your video.

Channel: This allows you to promote your second channel or someone else’s channel.

Link: This allows you to add a clickable link to your website, merchandise store or any website in general.

1. Video or Playlist

When you click on create a ‘Video or Playlist’ element for the end screen, you are greeted with a pop-up window that asks for your preference. From here, you can choose which video or playlist will be promoted. This removes the need to use an outro maker to promote your previous videos.

Most Recent Upload: This will promote your most recent video automatically. You do not have to choose which video to promote manually. The YouTube algorithm will automatically change the video every time you upload a new one.

Best For The Viewer: This will allow YouTube to choose the video for you based on views, likes to dislikes ratio, comments, etc. It will select the best video on your channel to promote.

Choose A Video Or Playlist: This allows you to manually choose a video or playlist you wish to promote on your end screen.

Select whichever one you feel is the best and click on ‘Create Element’.

Once you click on ‘Create Element’ a small box shall appear over your video. This can be moved to any part of the screen and gives you an idea where the element will be in the finished product. You can even adjust the size of the clickable video box using the four dots present on the sides.

2. Subscribe

This element will add a large clickable subscribe button on your end screen with your channel’s logo on it. This too can be moved to any part of the screen.

3. Channel

This is great to promote your second channel or the channel of someone with whom you collaborated. You can add their channel’s URL and even a short custom message.

4. Link

Finally, the link lets you add a URL to websites. This could be your website, merchandise website, or crowdfunding websites.

Tips to Remember

Always add only three elements to your end screen, so it doesn’t look cluttered.

You can add two video or playlist elements for promotion.

Always remember that an end screen by default takes up the last 20 seconds of your video. You can adjust the duration manually. However, try to extend your videos by 10 seconds so as not to cover up essential parts of the video.
