Strathmore University To Become First African University To Give IBM z Systems Training

IBM has made public it’s plan to offer IBM z Systems training to Kenyan students taking Computer Science and Information Technology undergraduate degree at the Strathmore University. The University will be able to offer this course starting January 2016 going forward.

This will effectively make Strathmore University the first University across Africa to teach the IBM z Systems (Mainframe) technology. Prior to this, the University will have to undergo some capacity building in partnership with IBM to make the learning institution have all the capacity needed to give the course.

Learners will be equipped with knowledge such mobile optimization, enterprise-wide infrastructure for cloud computing, integration of operational data with analytics. Armed with the IBM z Systems training, the graduate  will be better placed to provide companies and government bodies computing infrastructure that integrate the latest developments in big data, Cloud-based solutions, social media, mobile optimization and security.

This technology will enable any organization to operate at the scale and speed of mobile, be able to run analytics on every transaction and maximize their cloud presence security. The graduates of the program will be armed with the professional skills to take up responsibilities such as deploying a cloud-based service, running the analytics for big data and come up with real-time data insights and come up with mobile applications for business processes and services.

Currently, 20 senior lecturers at the University’s Faculty of Information Technology are undergoing training in preparation for the commencement of the course.
