There are times you need to take a screenshot of what you are viewing on your phone’s screen. It could be a position on a map you want to share with someone or show someone a chat text strings, or perhaps keep it as a record.

Whatever the reason is, you have probably noticed that different phones come with different ways of capturing screenshots. Today’s article will share some general tips on how to take screenshots on most smartphones.

How to take a screenshot on an iPhone

When you hold down the power/lock button and the home button at once, you will hear a camera capture sound followed by the screen flashing. That is how you take a screenshot on any iPhone or iPad. The screenshot taken will be stored in the ‘Photos’ app folder.

However, iOS devices running the latest iOS 10, have an additional way to take a screenshot. Head on to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Accessibility’. Scroll down to ‘Interaction’ > ‘Assistive Touch’ and toggle it ‘On’. Next, tab on the ‘Customize Top Level Menu’. On the left side of the screen, there should be a star icon. Click it then scroll down to ‘Screenshot’ and click it.

Doing so will enable AssistiveTouch menu floating on your screen at all times. It is movable, so in case it blocks something you need, you can just push it out of the way. Next time you want to take a screenshot, simply select ‘Screenshot’ from the AssistiveTouch menu.

How to take a screenshot on an Android Phone

Taking into considerations phones running Android 4 and above. You can take a screenshot by holding down the volume button simultaneously with the power/sleep/wake button. However, is some Android phones you will have to hold down the home button and the power/sleep/wake button at the same time. The screenshots take can be found in the Gallery app.

For Samsung Galaxy S5 and the newer versions, taking a screenshot is a bit more interesting. By placing your hand vertically along the edges of the screen and swiping across while maintaining contact between your hand and the screen. You have taken a screenshot. But to use this feature, you must turn on the ‘Motion and gestures’ option by going ton ‘Settings’ > ‘Motion’ > ‘Motion and gestures’ > ‘Palm swipe to capture’ and turning it on.
