Tech meets Art: Niagara Falls – Picturesque by Day, Illuminating by Night

Canada began illuminating parts of the Niagara Falls in 1860, as a celebration of Prince of Wales visit to the country. That was when the tradition of lighting up nature’s work of art began and has remained so up to now.

However, the lighting technology used was traditional and inefficient; in terms of the appeal of the light and energy consumption. They have now changed the light bulbs at the Niagara Falls and fitted the new technology LED lighting system.

The night Niagara Falls Illumination has now become an even greater sight to marvel at; when night came and the lights turned on. People on the Canadian side of the falls were smitten by the illumination.

Oh, I love the blue. The blue is beautiful, the color,” one visitor was quoted saying.

At night, the Niagara Falls turns into an illumination of a dazzling rainbow of colors stretching for almost half a mile away on the Canadian side. This new LED lighting is part of a $4 million renovation plan, to make the falls even brighter and prettier, but a lot cheaper in terms of electricity consumption using the LED lighting technology.

It’s a new era in Niagara Falls history tonight,” said Mark Thomas, the chairman of the Niagara Falls Illumination Board. “We’re eliminating all the dark spots so that you can actually see the whole rim of the falls, the whole curtain of the falls, and we’re gonna add a whole host of colors that you couldn’t get before with our old technology. When you put light on these falls, they dazzle.”

The Niagara Falls lying on the borders of the United States and Canada has become a tourist attraction, especially at night. Tourist come to see the beauty that is the fall of illuminated water, and now a whole range of dazzling colors can be added, dark spots illuminated, and the entire rim of the fall will illuminate brighter.

The upgrading of the illumination involved installing new 1,400 LED lights, which boosted the brightness 14 times. While reducing energy consumption by up to 85%, as LED bulbs technology lights brighter for lesser.
