Lipacard Kenya – a next generation FinTech platform of the youth
Lynk – using tech to improve the life of informal works and customers
Mobu – helping merchants know in-store traffic through desirable coupons
MobiDawa – building a reliable and easy to follow medication guide and reminder
Shield Investment Company Ltd. – using proprietary tech and leveraging on mobile money to give employees salary advances
Tech Republic Africa – creating premier tech education program to promote STEM among the youth
Totohealth – using mobile technology to improve children’s health
The judging panel will be made of both international and local judges. The panel will include Aaron Fu – Managing Partner Africa at Nest, Gregory Pepper – Regional Manager Africa at SeedStars World, Veronica Ogeto-Tchoketch – Head of Innovation at Safaricom, Bitange Ndemo – former Permanent Secretary of Kenya’s Ministry of ICT, and Josiah Mugambi – Executive Director at iHub.
One winner will emerge from the 11 startups that will be pitching at iHub. The winner will then proceed to the global finals of the SeedStars World Startup Competition that will be held in Geneva, Switzerland in 2016. That startup will compete against other startups that won the regional competition from different world regions. The overall winner at the final competition will go back home with $1.5 million investment.
The CEO of SeedStars World, Alisee de Tonnac said, “Our goal is to create the network for quality entrepreneurs around the world and help entrepreneurs, accelerators, co-working spaces and investors to interact with one another.”
The Kenyan leg of regional SeedStars World Startup Competition will be organized by iHub in partnership with Bonelli Design Firm. The event organizers promise that the occasion will be filled with inspirational keynotes, disruptive tech inventions and innovations and sessions for networking. Other countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Ivory Coast and Ghana have already conducted their regional SeedStars World competition.
