With the popularity of hemp-derived products like CBD, a variety of other cannabinoids have attracted attention. THC is one of the most famous and well-researched cannabinoids, but scientists are discovering some of its different forms or isomers. There’s a new cannabinoid hitting the markets that’s found in cannabis plants in small amounts. It is proving to be very popular because it promotes a much gentler high than delta-9 THC and is perfect for daytime use. Read on to find out more about this new cannabinoid – Delta-10 Tetrahydrocannabinol (D-10 THC).

What is delta-10 THC?

Delta 10 THC has a double bond on the 10th carbon chain, whereas delta-8 and delta-9 THC have a double bond on the 8th and 9th carbon chains. This means they have similar and yet different pharmacological properties. The difference in chemical structure offers a different experience for users.

Delta-10 was discovered by accident. A farm in California was extracting THC distillate from a batch of cannabis contaminated with a fire retardant. It formed crystals that research identified as delta-10 THC. Today delta-10 is created in a conversion process similar to the one that produces delta-8 concentrate.

Choose products from reputable brands

The process of transforming CBD into Delta-10 is a complex one that should be done by experienced extraction technicians in compliant laboratories. Reputable brands will be transparent about their products. They will have third-party test results to confirm what they contain. If brands use vague language, make medical claims, and don’t have lab reports, then stay away.

How does delta-10 THC interact with the body?

Cannabinoids have the ability to interact with the endocannabinoid (ECS) system of the body. The ECS system maintains homeostasis in the body. It plays a role in regulating pain, sleep, immunity, metabolism and more. It has CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors all over the body, including in the brain and central nervous system.

Delta-9 THC and Delta-8 THC have a high affinity toward the cannabinoid receptors in the body, which is why they have psychotropic effects. Delta-10 also interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors but with a different effect. It has a mild but uplifting effect without any side effects like paranoia and anxiety.

What are the benefits?

Not much research is done about the benefits of consuming delta-10, but it is likely to have some of the same effects as consuming delta-8 and delta-9. Users of delta-10 THC report experiencing a wide range of benefits throughout the day while staying more energized and focused. They report various benefits such as improved sleep and better appetite.

Stress-relief: Delta-10 THC may help to quiet down the nervous system when stress levels are high. Users say they feel calm without feeling sleepy.

Neuroprotective effects: Delta-10 THC may have neuroprotective properties, but research still needs to be done. There is some research that suggests delta-8 THC could help to produce acetylcholine which is a neurotransmitter. This neurotransmitter has several functions, including being responsible for cognition, memory and neuroplasticity.

Energy-booster: People who love delta-8 for its relaxing qualities but who want more of a boost may find delta-10 THC offers the right experience. They feel a mild high, but they also remain alert and ready to take on the day ahead.

Pain relief: Based upon a general understanding of the endocannabinoid system, it is likely that delta-10 THC has some type of anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.

Precautions

As it is closely related to delta-9 THC, delta-10 THC has the potential to show up in a drug test. People who know they will be subjected to drug testing shouldn’t use delta-10 THC products.

When using delta-10 THC for the first time, follow the golden rule of going low and slow. Start with the minimal dose and gradually increase it if necessary.

Potential users suffering from any kind of health condition should always consult with a physician before using delta-10 THC products.
