Huawei just unveiled the Huawei MateBook 2-in-1 device at the ongoing MWC 2016 conference in Barcelona.

Microsoft was dead right and finally has consumer-driven products in the offering. The 2-in-1 devices in the form of the Surface series and the Windows 10 operating system; especially comparing to Windows 8 OS. Users wants to consume digital content from devices that are not limiting in terms of not having small display size while at the same time being easily portable.

Thus, Microsoft gifted the world the Surface line of 2-in-1 devices that are tablets that double up as a laptop. You get bigger screen and easily portable, lightweight devices. It was only a matter of time before rivals imitated Microsoft’s offering and many OEMs are currently releasing their flagship 2-in-1 devices.

Even Apple, the arch rival of Microsoft released a 2-in-1 device, the iPad Pro with features quite uncharacteristic of the cappuccino company. I mean Steve Jobs was totally against accessories like a stylus pen, iPad keyboard among other things found in the iPad Pro.

Be that as it may, Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 and Apple’s iPad Pro are currently the poster child for 2-in-1 devices. Other OEMs are using these devices as their reference point when coming up with their flagship 2-in-1 devices.

China’s Huawei just unveiled its 2-in-1 at the MWC 2016 and boy! It sure does promise to give the iPad Pro and Pro 4 a good run for their money.

Huawei MateBook Review

The Huawei MateBook is a 6.9mm thin 12-inch tablet. The screen is an IPS TFT LCD with a 2160×1440 pixels resolution. It weighs about 640 grams so should be fairly light to carry around.

Yes, just like the iPad Pro and Surface Pro it has a stylus pen called MatePen. The pen looks like a cross of the iPad and Surface stylus pens. It is powered by a 6th-gen Intel Core M dual-core processor with a maximum clock of 3.1GHz. This processor is supported by an LPDDR3 RAM that comes with a 4GB and 8GB size variant.

As far as the internal memory goes the Huawei MateBook will have an SSD with the following space options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. It runs either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro. It terms of wireless connectivity it has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac MIMO and Bluetooth 4.1. Looking at the sensors, MateBook is fitted with an Ambient light sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, fingerprint scanner and Hall Sensor.

For your selfie needs, it has a 5MP front camera. Also, it has dual front speakers and dual-digital Mic. It has the USB 3.1 type C jack and a keyboard smart cover connector. It is powered by a 4430mAh battery and comes with a USB-C to micro-USB cable packed also packed in the box.

According to Huawei, the MatePen sensors can detect more than 2048 different levels of sensitivity and its Li-ion battery can support up to 100 hours of usage on a single charge. Check out the following video of the device by PhoneArena.
