Tidal, The First Global Music Streaming Services Owned By Artists

Music streaming service is fast becoming the preferred means of listening to music by music lovers. Thanks to the fast internet connection and powerful processing mobile devices, users now less bother themselves with downloading and storing music. They now prefer to stream their music saving them not just storage space but also they enjoy a richer interactive platform offered by music streaming services.

From a different angle, music streaming services have been making a killing off ads shown on their platform. Leading to the commercialization of the music industry at the expense of raw quality music that listeners enjoy. Well, a team of heavy-weight music artists have joined forces to come up with their own music streaming service, dubbed Tidal

Most notable shareholder is Jay-Z, who bought $56m stake in the company other include Win Butler and Regine Chassagne from Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Beyonce, Usher, Rihanna, Madonna, Kanye West, Jason Aldean, Jack White, Nicki Minaj, J Cole and Chris Martin.

The music streaming ‘startup’ company launched last night, with Musician Alicia Keys being the mains speaker at the launch event. Although Keys fell short of speaking on the corporate affairs of their new startups and how it will go up against the well-established Spotify and Apple, she had the following to say:

Tonight is still just the beginning of an exciting path ahead. Tidal is a global and rapidly expanding streaming platform. We are here today to offer something different: a platform owned by artists… as dynamic as the artists behind it… Today marks the true beginning of a mission to change the status quo, to reestablish the value of music.” said Keys, who delivered the mission statement for Tidal.

This is incredible. This is so powerful. Look how we can all do this together… it’s feeling like a graduation. Jimi Hendrix once said that music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in the world, then it can only happen through music. An overstatement? Maybe, but maybe not. After all, there is truth in the old adage that music makes the world go round.

How much do we love music? How much do we love this thing called music? So we come together before you this day, March 30 2015, in one voice in unity, in the hopes that today will be another one of those moments in time, a moment that will forever change the course of music history… Tidal, the first ever artist owned global music and entertainment platform. Our goal is simple, we wane create a better service and a better experience for both fans and artists… Our mission goes beyond commerce; it goes beyond technology. Our intent is to preserve music’s importance in our lives.
