Uber continues to grow and roll out in many cities around the world, with the city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania becoming its 475th city to have the taxi-hailing service.
“We are proud to launch Uber in Tanzania at such an exciting point in its growing economy. As the infrastructure of Dar es Salaam rapidly urbanizes, so the demand for affordable, easy, and flexible transport grows.” – Those were the words of Alon Lits, the General Manager for Uber sub-Saharan Africa as the service launched yesterday in Dar.
Using the Uber app, commuters can call up a taxi at the touch of a button on their touchscreen smartphones; see the taxi coming towards your location on a map in real-time. You don’t need to go outside and start yelling out and waving to passing taxis, simply push a button on your smartphone and wait for the taxi to pull up near you.
“Uber is part of a broader global evolution in transportation. Dar es Salaam is a vibrant, thriving city with a growing youthful labor force that is ready to welcome and support our service. Together, in partnership with the current transport system in Dar es Salaam, we will shape the future of urban travel to benefit passengers, drivers, and the environment. We are so excited to be launching here.”
