On July 23rd, Uber officially rolled out in Lagos, Nigeria giving the residents of the city another easy way to hail a cab in record time. Uber plans to roll out to other cities as well in the near future.

On July 23rd, Uber officially rolled out in Lagos, Nigeria giving the residents of the city another easy way to hail a cab in record time. Uber plans to roll out to other cities as well in the near future.

Uber had Ice Prince as its celebrity star during the launch of the service, and the celeb became the first person to use Uber to hail a cab in Nigeria. Uber is launching in a market with Rocket Internet’s EasyTaxi as the main competitor; EasyTaxi has already spread its services considerably in Nigeria and can boasts of more than 400 drivers being fully registered under its database.

In order to use Uber, commuters will have to download the Uber App, which works on both Android and iOS devices. Then register yourself using your credit or debit card and voila, you can start using the app to hail cabs.

Uber has started off with great discounts for the residents of Lagos, commuters can get a ride with a NGN2,000 discount using the promo code LAUNCHLAGOS. The company wrote on their blog post that during the trial period, car availability will only be limited and focuses on “The Island & the surrounding neighbourhoods.” The firm is also looking to give some job positions to fill up current vacancies for the post of Community Manager, Operations Manager and General Manager.
