Understanding Hemp: Are There Different Types of Hemp?

Did you know that the use of hemp for humankind dates back to 8,000 BCE? This amazing plant has supplied us with many useful things, such as hemp cords, oil, and paper.

Today, hemp serves another very important purpose: producing cannabidiol (CBD) products. These have basically the same benefits of marijuana’s THC, except without psychoactive effects. Because of this, it’s no wonder why hemp and CBD are so popular nowadays.

Of course, not all hemp is the same. In this article, we’ll discuss the different types of hemp so you understand it better.

Hemp Seeds

In the very early days of our history, hemp seeds were used as food for the poor. It was also used to feed and raise livestock.

However, as we became more familiar with the plant, we learned it could be used for other culinary purposes.

For example, today, hemp seeds are mainly used as additives to things like salads, smoothies, protein bars, desserts, and more. We even have hemp milk available and the seeds are also eaten on their own as either roasted or sprout forms.

Also, as our technologies developed, we soon realized that hemp could be processed in numerous other ways for our benefit. Explore these products below.

Non-Consumable Products

First, let’s quickly cover non-consumable products you can get from hemp. They include:

Ropes

Paper

Canvases

Clothing

Construction (bricks, concrete, insulation)

As you can see, this plant has a wide variety of use outside of being ingested.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil is made by cold-pressing hemp seeds. What’s great about this type of oil is that there are plenty of nutrients found in it. They include:

Proteins

Vitamins

Minerals

Soluble/insoluble fibers

Omega 3 essential fatty acids

Omega 6 essential fatty acids

You don’t have to consume the hemp seed oil plain either. If you’d rather incorporate it with your diet, you can! You can use it in salad dressings, shakes, or pestos. Just make sure you use it cold, as it’s not suitable for high temperatures (meaning you can’t cook with it).

Hemp Flour

We usually bake with regular four made from wheat. But there are so many alternatives, such as flour made from:

Arrowroot

Barley

Corn

Millet

Oat

Tapioca

Sorghum

Rye

Another alternative you can add to that list is hemp flour. Like with other hemp products, it’s full of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fibers. It’s vegan-friendly, which means practically everyone can use it.

Hemp Tea

If you want to reap the benefits of hemp in liquid form, you can do so with hemp tea. Do note that with hemp root tea, you won’t get any cannabinoids in it. However, you’ll still enjoy ingesting the vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial compounds.

If you want to benefit from cannabinoids, then you’ll want to try either young or mature hemp tea. As the name suggests, you’ll get many more cannabinoids in mature hemp tea rather than the young. It might be worth experimenting with the different teas available to see which one suits you best.

CBD Strains

You might already know that people consume a wide variety of marijuana strains. They mainly either smoke, vape, or eat marijuana products to feel the effects.

The active compound in marijuana that gets you “high” is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). While many people specifically smoke weed to get this high, other people prefer its other effects, such as reducing pain and inflammation, fighting insomnia, and improving their appetites.

Understandably, it can be a dilemma when using marijuana. Maybe you want all those benefits, but need to stay clear-minded and sober for your job or daily life.

In that case, CBD is an amazing alternative. It has all the same properties, but without psychoactive effects.

This means you can get pain relief while at work, without feeling out of it. Plus, if you get a good product, it shouldn’t make you fail drug tests either.

Are you interested in hearing more? Then here are the common hemp strains you’ll find for CBD and what people use them for.

Frosted Lime

As a quick FYI, hemp also has different types like marijuana does. This means there are indica, sativa, and hybrid CBD/hemp strains.

Frosted Lime is a sativa-dominant hybrid strain. It’s one that people use to relax but still feel energetic. This means you can use it for help in productivity and creativity.

As you might’ve guessed from the name, this is a strain that has a citrus fragrance.

Special Sauce

This is a special strain that has 23% CBD and 23% total cannabinoids, which makes it a very potent strain. Most people use this one to relax and unwind. You can even use it to help you sleep.

This CBD strain has a citrusy fragrance as well, but with more of a berry note.

Lemon Drop

The Lemon Drop strain is sativa-dominant as well. And as the name suggests, it has a lemony fragrance.

This strain is also good for keeping up with a more energetic lifestyle. Not only that, but many people use it for relief from pain and discomfort.

Now you know all the types of hemp, including the different CBD strains you can consume. If you’ve always admired what marijuana can do for you but don’t want the intoxicating effects of THC, then CBD is definitely a worthwhile option to explore.

Otherwise, think about incorporating things like hemp seeds, oil, flour, and tea into your diet. Considering these hemp types have so many health benefits, you can be doing yourself and your family a favor by switching to hemp products. So get on the road to better health today!
