Using WhatsApp on Ubuntu has always been a dream of Linux users. While Windows and Mac users enjoy using WhatsApp on computer, Linux users had never got a chance to enjoy Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and other mobile based messaging platforms on computer. But not anymore. With a new software called “Franz”, you can use WhatsApp on Ubuntu. Not only that, you can use other services like Telegram, Skype, Facebook Messenger in the same Window. Apart from these famous services, Franz supports 10 more messaging services.

Franz is developed using the Electron framework of Github. It basically presents all the messaging apps at one place so you could maximize your communication productivity. Franz was available for other platforms in the past, but it is now rolling out for Linux as well.

Franz runs in your browser; it is a messaging client having all the famous services combined at one place. You can also add and remove chat services from the main screen. So if you just want WhatsApp on Ubuntu, you can remove other apps.

As Ubuntu is open source, many users are concerned about the security of the WhatsApp on it. But the developers behind Franz say that no one could see the messages and private information because of the encryption. You are assigned a pin code and you can sign in from the Franz website along with many other unique details. There is no middle man or API service involved.

You can add and remove accounts. You can use multiple WhatsApp accounts on Ubuntu using this service.

You can download Franz from here. After downloading, extract the folder and you will see the file named “Franz” with the cogwheel icon. Launch it and follow the on-screen instructions.
