That Opera is fighting tooth and claw to maintain and grow its market share is not secret. You only need to look at all the investment, features, and campaign the Norwegian software maker is putting out. It is leaving nothing to chance, especially in Africa; a fast emerging market on the global economy scene.
The Norwegian software maker has enlisted the services of Nigerian-born footballer Victor Moses who plays for Chelsea FC to become its brand ambassador in Africa. Moses is set to become the brand ambassador for the Opera Mini browser, which is currently the most popular mobile browser across Africa.
Moses, who is set to lift the Premier League title alongside his teammates at Chelsea FC is said to feature in an Opera Mini commercial set to start airing today.
“I am proud to be in partnership with Opera and am looking forward to working together. The Opera team have taken me through their plans and vision for the brand in the Nigerian market, and it’s made me incredibly excited about the future. I’m delighted to be a part of such a groundbreaking campaign,” – Victor Moses.
Moses has shot a commercial video with Opera whereby he tries to challenge his on-field speed against the speed of Opera Mini. His partnership with Opera will extend into 2018, and he is expected to feature on several campaign projects for the Opera Mini.
“Football is one of the most popular types of content consumed by Opera Mini users throughout Africa. Victor Moses is a perfect match for Opera, being not only a high performer but also a great role model and natural ambassador of his home country, Nigeria,” said Jorgen Arnesen, the Global Head of Marketing and Distribution at Opera.
The unveiling of Victor Moses as the Opera Mini ambassador in Africa comes hot on the heels of the announcement of a $100 million investment by Opera in Africa’s digital economy over the next two years. The partnership with Moses is also a strategic move by Opera given Nigeria is not only a populous country but also the leading African country as far as consumption of digital content on Opera Mini goes.
