Vine Bans Porn, But Artistic Nudity Is Still Allowed
Everyone is familiar with the Twitter-owned app called Vine. Vine allows users to upload and share up to 6 seconds videos and since its introduction it has gone viral. But lately porn clips are being made and spread on the app. Even though a very small percentage of the clips are considered porn (only about 1% of all videos uploaded on Vine), Vine has taken measure to prevent this growing behavior.

Vine has prohibited any video that contains “depictions of sex acts, nudity that is sexually aggressive or has a sexual context, graphic acts of sexual arousal. In short there will be no more sex clips that can be created on Vine. Vine said that they are ok with sexual content on the internet, but don’t want to be the source of it. They also stated that sexually suggestive posts are fine, but not sexually explicit ones: You can post a clip of nude modeling, mother breast-feeding her child or sexually suggestive dancing but not any sexually explicit content.

This move by Vine has been taken as a good move, since porn creation should not mess with the social media. Considering many kids and minors use this app, and they should not accidentally stumble on sexually explicit content that were uploaded by other Vine users. Users can also report any uploaded sexually explicit content. Considering other videos sharing websites like YouTube among others don’t allow porn content, it was only a matter of time before Vine set such standards for itself. Many people sign up to use Vine, and they do not do so in order to watch porn, and Vine move to ban porn is highly welcomed by the majority, even though there are a few who protest against such move.

The intention of creating Vine was to enable people share short, creative and fun videos that users would enjoy seeing. Showing of porn defeats the purpose for which it was meant for, and Vine banning porn should serve as a great statement to those users who keep uploading porn to the internet.
