VLC for Android has a new update, giving it a feature that made us (well, those of us who appreciates simplicity without compromise on top functionality) love it so much in the desktop space. So much so, that when the beta version was released on Android, many went ahead to install it on their smartphone.
However, the VLC for Android experience has never been the same as the desktop version. Until now! The newly released VLC 2.0 has a feature much similar to its desktop version, the network browsing. It now supports the DLNA/UPnP, Windows network sharing, SFTP, FTP, and NFS protocols. It will also automatically seek out and find subtitles over the network, and has improved support for right-to-left and even more complex subtitles layout.
This feature enables you to find music videos and movies stored on yourhome server. Meaning you can now stream videos from your local server or home media server from your Android smartphone. That comes with the benefit of creating a video playlist on your home media server and play the same playlist on your smartphone via the VLC app.
If you are on a tablet, this latest VLC update now pops-up video Windows when you want to multitask.
Another notable improvement with the VLC2.0 is the merge of Android TV app with the Android for Android mobile app. It is certainly reassuring that one of the most stable software out there is still growing robust even in newer platforms like Android OS and TV.
If you already don’t have VLC installed on your Android device, you now have more reasons why you really should. If you do have it installed but don’t have the new feature. You need to upgrade your app now. Either way, head on to Google Play Store to download or upgrade the VLC app.
Yes! It is free and a top notch app for music, and video playback ever since it emerged on computers. It is still free on Android and no doubt it is poised to be the best app for video watching on mobile devices.
