WeChat Africa has partnered with McDonald’s South Africa on a pilot program to launch mobile payments in selected flagship restaurants across Johannesburg and Cape Town. A partnership that will see WeChat’s new, quick and easy to use mobile payment Quick Pay be used to make payments.

Quick Pay wallet allows customers to generate a QR code that can be scanned using specially designed scanners to make secure payments at the point of sale counter.

WeChat launched the mobile wallet electronic payment last year. It provides users the same convenience such as the ability to securely keep your bank cards in addition to making instant payment electronically via your phone.

On top of making purchases, users can also electronically and securely wire money to their family and friends. Users can top up the Quick Pay wallet through their debit and credit Chip and Pin cards. You can also pay your utility bills, buy airtime and mobile data from mobile service carrier.

Quick Pay has already some 30,000 participating merchants across South Africa with fully equipped SnapScan to facilitate the transaction process.

By registering for the WeChat Wallet, Quick Pay, you instantly become Instant Money subscriber, a service that allows one to receive money without having a bank account. Instant Money is a Standard Bank voucher that makes up the cash balance and can be topped up using the traditional Instant Money channels.
