Will iPhone X be able to run 4K video in YouTube?

When people invest their money in buying a high-quality phone having high standard, they wish to get all the features in the best quality. Unfortunately, iPhone X users after getting one of the expensive mobile phones are unable to view YouTube videos in HD quality. They are questioning whether iPhone X will be able to run 4K videos in YouTube or not. Here, in this article we discuss the views, different people have regarding this question.

YouTube is supporting 4K Ultra HD videos since 2010. These videos don’t use H.265 compression but they use the VP9 codec, for higher resolution videos, that is royalty-free, meaning its adoption rate could potentially be higher. This codec is different from the ones that Apple support in hardware. Therefore, Apple devices are capped to 1080p or 1440p when using native hardware-accelerated playback. The YouTube app for iOS is updated and now it adds support for dynamic range video on the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. YouTube serves content in 1440p where available, rather than 1080p like on iPhone 8 Plus.

Technically iPhone X can play Ultra HD videos but not at the native resolution. iPhone X has a stunning Super Retina HD display, with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels. This is the sharpest screen, Apple has ever put inside a smartphone. Whereas, 4K is 4096 x 2160 and Ultra HD is 3840 x 2160. The resolution of iPhone screen is not enough for full 1440p (2560 x 1440 pixels). But, it is certainly sharper than 1920 x 1080 and close to 1440p. Therefore, iPhone X can display the 4K video, but it will be down sampled.

Concluding this, the answer to the question – Will iPhone X be able to run 4K video in YouTube -is iPhone is unable to run 4K video in YouTube since the screen of iPhone X is created of resolution: 2436 x 1125 pixels that is not enough to support 4K. However, by using the camera of iPhone X, you can record 4K videos since it asks for the video quality options before recording the video.
