The UAE-based satellite operator, Yahsat together with its regional broadcaster and ISP, Tele10 Group have partnered to improve internet connectivity in Burundi, East D.R. Congo, and Rwanda.
The partnership was inked through a signing of an MoU that will see both companies ramp up their infrastructure and network coverage across the said three countries.
“To further our commitment to the region, we have entered an MoU with Tele10 to discuss the provision of high-speed connectivity to three of Africa’s fast-emerging markets, Rwanda, Burundi, and East Democratic Republic of the Congo,” said David Murphy, the Chief Commercial Officer at Yahsat.
“We look forward to working together and providing unparalleled broadband services to our customers across our expanding footprint.”
The partnership comes ahead of Yahsat’s planned launch of a third satellite, the Al Yah 3. Once operational, the satellite will enable the roll out of YahClick; a service the company says will be a cost-effective satellite broadband service, to new 19 markets in Africa within the Q1 of 2017.
YahClick is currently Africa’s leading satellite broadband service providers with its internet service being delivered through modems and small satellite dish. It provides users uninterrupted, high-speed internet connectivity anywhere within its coverage area. It also has in-country technical, operational and customer service centers.
Tele10 plans to add YahClick’s broadband package into its portfolio as value-added services to its current customers and new customers.
Yahsat is also in talks with other local service providers to take on YahClick and boosts its presence and strengthen its customer care services. A move that will enable the service cover larger area across the African continent.
Eugene Nyagahene, the CEO of Tele 10 Group said, “In this era of digital migration across the African continent, where several technologies such as 3/4G, hotspots, fibre, and others are struggling to win the market, we are confident that YahClick will definitely give us a serious competitive advantage against other players in the region and make us lead the Internet industry.”
